About Maria Yik - Hong Kong

Maria loves paintings ever since she was a child. As a teenager, she started to learn western water colour paintings from Mr. Kan May Tin, a well- known artist in water colour paintings in Hong Kong. She was Mr. Kan’s private student for more than ten years; and had participated in two joint- young artists’ Water Colour Paintings Exhibitions, both held at City Hall, Hong Kong, respectively in 1971 and 1990. In 2008, she became a private student of Mr. Tam Sing Chuk, a master in Ling Nan Style Chinese Ink and Wash and Colour Paintings. She has since developed a solid foundation in Chinese painting technique and skills. She had participated in a few joint painting exhibitions. In 2010, she joined an “Exhibition of Today’s Chinese Art Association in commemoration of the 105th Anniversary of the birth of Zhao Shao Ang” at City Hall in Hong Kong, and a touring exhibition of artworks in Guangzhou, China; Toronto, Canada; and New York, USA. In May 2010, she participated in the “2nd Annual Shanghai International Artists” paintings competition held in Shanghai and won a Silver Award for her landscape artwork; and in November of the same year, she also exhibited her artworks in the Joint-Exhibition of Chinese Paintings (Traces of Muse II) by Tam Sing Chuk and Students at City Hall, Hong Kong. In 2013, she joined Traces of Muse lll and exhibited her paintings at City Hall, Hong Kong. Besides painting, Maria also likes travelling and photography. She has benefited a lot from her visits to various countries. She believes travelling has enriched her insight in life and has given her the inspiration in her artworks; both in paintings and photography.
